Wholesale Distributor

Wholesale DistributorAcquisitions are always challenging, but when you’re a large wholesaler with hundreds of employees serving 5,000 customers per week in 13 states, it becomes even more difficult. When a large New Jersey-based wholesaler faced this situation, they enlisted the guidance of Pound Consulting to integrate the acquisition and strengthen their operations.

After hearing several success stories from other companies in similar situations, the wholesaler contacted Pound, a change management firm with experience in operational and strategic planning, especially in high-growth and troubled situations.

The company was operating three different locations with 450 employees, both union and non-union. Pound actively negotiated and resolved three demanding union contracts. They also restructured the entire senior management for all departments, including Operations, Information Systems, Marketing, and Purchasing.

Pound also spearheaded a complete turnaround plan for the wholesale company. Key accomplishments included:

  • Restructuring a $40 million credit facility
  • Adding $2 million of leased rolling stock
  • Instituting three mergers of smaller regional wholesalers
  • Improving operating results $3 million on an annualized basis
  • Boosting overall productivity by 35%

The company owner truly believes that they could not have made it through such a major transition without Pound Consulting’s guidance. With their expert recommendations and proactive approach, the wholesaler didn’t just survive—they thrived.
